How to Add Your Chrome Profile Shortcut to Windows 10 Desktop in Six Steps

Follow these steps if you want to add a Chrome browser shortcut to your Windows 10 desktop. This is handy if you have more than one Chrome profile and would like a shortcut for each.

You might decide to run more than one Chrome profile from your computer. (It’s a great way to split entities or business and personal interests.)

You might also prefer a shortcut to your Chrome profiles on your desktop.

But maybe you removed the shortcut the system created when you first installed Chrome.

Here’s how to get your Chrome profile shortcut back on your desktop:

(I’m using an instance of Chrome where I’m not signed into any of my profiles.)

Open your Chrome browser

Nothing special in this step. Just open an instance of your Chrome browser.

Click on the 3-dot menu

At the top right-hand side of the browser, click the 3-dot drop-down menu.

Click on settings

In the current iteration of Chrome (Version 69.0.3497.81), clicking on “Settings” inside an instance you’re not signed into, pops open a settings page in a new tab.

Click on Settings

  • For step 5, there is no “Show desktop shortcut” line nor is there a button to enable/disable. My Chrome is up to date; why am I missing this option?

    • Hi Ryan,

I just checked on my side. Although the latest Chrome shows updated user icons, the line, “Show desktop shortcut”, is still there.

No idea why it’s not showing on your side.

      Sorry!

    • Don’t panic. The switch button will show up. Do the following steps:
      1. Click on your profile picture and select: “Manage people”
      2. Click on the button add person. A new window will pop-up.
      3. Type the name of the person you want to add. (The default is: Person 1). No need to select a picture at this point.
      4. Now, a new window will pop up. Click on “Turn on sync”
      5. Another window will popup asking for the person email address and password.
      6. By creating the second profile in the computer, automatically the switch button will show up.
      7. You should have two icons on your desktop, each one with the gmail picture.
